Musical Opportunities abound at St. Peter’s.

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir at St. Peter's is made up of thirty-eight members.  The choir’s primary purpose is to assist in the musical leadership of Sunday morning worship by supporting congregational singing of the service music, hymns, and communion music, and by offering an anthem on behalf of the congregation.  The choir works hard and enjoys its work.

From time to time the choir offers their musical ministry for funerals, memorial services, and other special events, such as the evensong on October 12 when we dedicated our wonderful new organ.

Our repertoire and our individual skill levels are wide.  Although the choir roster is almost full, if you enjoy singing, can match pitch (music reading is a plus), and believe that this group might be a place to offer your gifts, please talk to a member of the choir or the music committee, or to Irene Feddern, our Organist-Choirmaster.

The choir sings at every 10 a.m. service during the summer, but our numbers are somewhat diminished because of vacations and other escapes to cooler climes.  We welcome "Sunday Morning Singers" who would like to join us for rehearsal at 9 a.m. to sing that morning's service at 10.  Music is generally easier and can be learned quickly, so if you've been thinking about giving choir a try, summer is a great time to put your toe in the water.  We also rehearse once every three weeks in the summer to get a head start on several weeks' worth of anthems and to have fun together, an event usually involving food.  Summer rehearsals are scheduled for June 23, July 7, July 28, and August 18.  Please check with the church office for location.

Instrumentalists

Do you play a guitar, flute, trumpet, sax, clarinet, violin, cello, or even a mouth organ?  Are you a percussionist?  If you have an instrument gathering dust in the attic, please consider getting it our and sharing your skills with St. Peter’s.

Instrumentalists are needed on an ad hoc basis for Sundays and special services.  Tell Irene about what you might have to offer.

Congregation

Your opportunity to contribute to St. Peter’s musical ministry occurs each Sunday as you sing out loud and clear, raising your voices in praise and thanksgiving.  Your vocal support means a great deal to the clergy, the congregation and the choir.  For this we are thankful!

The Schantz Pipe Organ

The Schantz Organ Company from Orrville, Ohio, completed the installation of a new 56-rank pipe organ at St. Peter's in September, 2003.  Eleven ranks sing from an antiphonal division over the west door; the remainder are housed in a magnificent mahogany case at the east end.  The organ was dedicated at a service of Evensong on October 12, followed by a recital by Indianapolis organist Dale Caldwell.  The church is open from 9 to 5 Monday through Friday; visiting organists are welcome to enjoy the instrument, but we suggest that you call first to check the schedule.
