ANNUAL ANTIQUE SHOW SURPASSES HALF A MILLION DONATED TO CHILDREN’S CAUSES

Over the past 11 years, the Skidaway Island Antiques Show and Sale has raised $572,000 for Savannah’s neediest children. More than 1500 people attend the show each year, coming from Charleston and Jacksonville and points in between. They are attracted by the caliber of the antiques and the opportunity to enjoy lunches prepared by the parishioners of St. Peter’s Church, who donate thousands of volunteer hours in this outreach effort.

This year's show will begin with a preview gala the evening of Thursday, March 4, and runs daily from Friday, March 5, through Sunday, March 7.

The preview gala, An Evening in the Garden, kicks off the 12th annual event on March 4, 2010, at 7 p.m. Throughout the evening serious collectors have an early opportunity to secure the antiques of their choice in the dealer gallery.  Throughout the elegant black-tie (optional) soiree in the adjoining tent, the Mary Davis & Company band, featuring one of the most versatile vocalists in the greater Savannah area, will perform.  Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by noted caterer Anna Hood and the women of St. Peter’s Church.  Dinner stations will feature a variety of cuisines from noted Savannah-based chefs.

Invitations to the gala will be sent in January and the cost is $75 per person.  Call 912-598-9521 for invitation information.

**  ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT AT-RISK CHILDREN IN SAVANNAH

Since its inception in 1999, the net proceeds of the Antiques Show totaling over $572,000 have been donated to charities working in the greater Savannah area on

behalf of at-risk children.

The following non-profit agencies will be the 2010 Show recipients:

Coastal Children's Advocacy Center provides a coordinated multidisciplinary approach to the investigation and interviewing of children who have been victims of sexual or severe physical abuse or who have witnessed violence. Services also include crisis intervention, individual and family counseling.

Last year CCAC served 220 children, ages 2-17, and 245 family members.

Hope House is a supportive family home for unwed mothers with children.  This agency offers intervention, communication and life skills training in a compassionate and nurturing environment.  During the past year, 20 families were served.

Horizons is a national student enrichment program administered in Savannah by the Country Day School.  It takes educationally at-risk K-6th grade children from low income families and provides summer enrichment activities, transportation, meals and curriculum materials.  Approximately 150 children are served each summer, and there is hope to expand.

Interfaith Hospitality Network of Coastal Georgia works to alleviate family homelessness in Savannah and Coastal Georgia.  In partnership with the local religious community, IHN provides emergency shelter, meals, and comprehensive services to families and their children.  During 2008, IHN assisted 24 families with 64 children.

Park Place provides 24/7 services to youths age 11-19, providing emergency shelter and counseling, with the goal of reunifying families whenever possible. In 2008, Park Place served 106 youths in residence and 30 non-residents.
